Window treatments are an important part of bringing your facility full circle. However, there are several steps to consider before and during a blinds and roller shades installation process that you may not be aware of that may be complex. Proper installation is more than a quick measurement, placing an order and then whipping out a few basic tools to perform the job – and that is why working with professionals at Presidential Window Products is important to achieve your project goals. In this post, we will cover the necessary steps from window measurements to the installation of the window treatments.

Step 1: Measure

You’ve heard the old saying, “Measure twice, cut once.” The same rings true when it comes to measuring for blinds and shades. Measurements are taken in accordance with where the shade will be mounted. Typically, each window is assigned a number, so we know exactly where to install the window treatment on installation day.

Step 2: Order and Schedule Installation Date

After the measurements are recorded, it’s time for you to make a final decision on the materials, colors and other options provided. A final cost estimate will be provided and once approved an installation date will be set.

Lead times and installation dates are often dictated based on the type of window treatment ordered. Some materials and options, for example, may take longer to produce than others depending on demand and other variables. The size and scope of window treatments may also dictate shipping dates.

Step 3: Quality Check

Window treatments are inspected to ensure the appropriate number, size and type of shades and rollers before they are shipped to their destination. A damage check is also performed to ensure that there are no manufacturing defects and that the product is packaged appropriately for safe transit.

Step 4: Installation Begins

When installing blinds and shades it is important to follow a process that ensures a successful outcome. Unpacking window treatments and laying them under the window they were assigned to allows us to double check our data to confirm size and location. For larger jobs, simply unpacking, placing treatments, and double-checking data sheets can take an entire day. But this is an important first step of the process, as it will help the hardware installation go much smoother and faster.

Bracket Installation

Once the window treatments are placed the bracket installation begins. The brackets hold the shades or blinds in place and installed on either the inside or outside of the window. If mounted inside, the brackets are usually installed into the window frame with self-tapping screws. If mounted on the outside of the window, they are often screwed into the face of the window frame or over it. Mounting in a pocket can also be performed.

Shades & Blind Installation

After the brackets are installed, the blinds or shades are placed within the brackets. Next, they are tested to ensure they can move up and down with ease. Setting the lower limit, which is the point at which the blind or shade will stop so the window treatment doesn’t hit the windowsill or bunch up.

Top Treatment is Installed

The fascia is the last part of the window treatment to be installed and setting the upper stop limit when required.

Step 5: Test and Verify

The installation process is completed by performing a final walk through and making sure that the window treatments are operating properly, look great and the customer is 100% satisfied.
